A fun fact that you may not know about me is that A fun fact that you may not know about me is that I invest in real estate. This picture is from the first property I ever bought in 2012 (even before my first house). It’s the building that my salon is in.

I want to share this because sometimes hairstylists get labeled as “uneducated” or that what we do is a “hobby” or that we are always going to “struggle” financially.

It’s just simply NOT TRUE. A healthy mindset around money, good saving/spending habits and surrounding yourself with people who are successful at the things you want to do is 🔑

And for those of you thinking 💭 “Well, I don’t OWN a salon so that’s not possible for me”. Eliminate that limiting belief immediately. I bought my building as a hairstylist with an average HAIRSTYLIST commission based salary....no owner pay, no manager pay, no profit payout. Just hard work + saving and allocating money responsibly.

How amazing, that we have the opportunity create abundance in our lives while getting to be in such an amazing and fulfilling industry ✂️

It’s true. YOU are IMPACTFUL, whether you thin It’s true. YOU are IMPACTFUL, whether you think so or not.

The question isn’t whether you are impactful or not...the question really is WHAT IMPACT are you making?

On other people, in your family, in your career and most importantly for yourself and the life you want to create?

We have a tendency to believe that things are “out of our control”. We say things like “that’s just the way it is” or that “there is nothing I can do about it”

Those words are IMPACTFUL. The narrative that happens in your head is IMPACTFUL. Your attitude is IMPACTFUL. Your choices are IMPACTFUL. Your interactions are IMPACTFUL.

Each an every day, you have a substantial amount of impact that you carry with you. How you decide to use it is up to you. As you look back on your day, your month, your year....you will either be looking up at where you could have been or back at what you created.

My hope is that you recognize how impactful you are and that you look back and smile 😊

What is something that energizes you? The thing t What is something that energizes you? The thing that you do that reignites your passion and excitement?

For me teaching, mentoring and connecting are the things that I do that light me up. They are the things I do that actually make me feel MORE energized 💫 when I walk away from them rather than feeling depleted.

Building a life around what makes you feel energized results in more happiness, more effectiveness and ultimately more fulfillment.

Take time throughout your day to see where you feel most energized and most depleted. These are the markers to see where you need to adjust & pivot.

This is one of my favorite areas that I help hairstylists and salon owners in. Creating a business, career and LIFE that they LOVE ❤️

Are you a “vague” goal setter? “I want to Are you a “vague” goal setter?

“I want to lose weight”
“I want to earn more money”
“I want a new car”
“I want to be promoted”
“I want to travel”
“I want to be happy”

Do your goals sound similar to these? Unfortunately desires and goals like these are lacking ☝️thing.
.
.
.
CLARITY. We have a tendency to be VAGUE when it comes to our desires.

✔️Maybe it’s because we aren’t really sure exactly what we want.
✔️Maybe it’s because we feel selfish, greedy or bad for saying what we actually want.
✔️Maybe it’s because we don’t think what we want is actually possible for us.
.
.
.
These are the types of things that hold us back. They hold us back from being crystal clear about what we want.
.
.
.
Challenge yourself to be honest + clear and redefine your goals for this year.
.
.
.
“I want to lose x pounds by x date”
“I want to make x more than I made last year”
“I want to buy x model car with x interior by x date”
“I want to be promoted to x position with a salary of x dollars per year”
“I want to travel to x in June of this year”
.
.
.
Your brain needs CLEAR directions so it can help you get where you want to go. And I promise once you allow yourself to be honest + clear, opportunities start to open up 💫✨

I wouldn’t trade these works days for the world. I wouldn’t trade these works days for the world.

When my son was young I missed out on so much with him. I worked long days behind the chair, staying late on many nights, going in early most mornings, weddings on the weekends and doing business work on my days off.
.
.
.
I don’t regret those years either. I hustled HARD to build a successful business and team.
.
.
.
And as he grew, he got to witness a growing business and all the challenges, hard work and scary leaps it takes to build your dreams.
.
.
.
Rewind to 5 years ago, I knew I needed to change the way I was working or else I was going to crash and burn. Step by step I cut my time behind the chair, stepped into working more ON my business and eventually investing in amazing people who help support me and my business so that I have more time to do all the things I love and be with the people I adore 💓
.
.
.
Days like this, working at a desk with my boy, didn’t happen by chance...it happened by design.

Some of you that know me, know that a few years ag Some of you that know me, know that a few years ago I went through a short 8 month stint as a dog owner with this guy, Grayson. And although I’m a huge dog lover, ultimately I realized that it wasn’t a great fit for either of us. This experience was humbling and heartbreaking all at the same time.

But just as life is always speaking and teaching us through our experiences we go through, this one was no different. This dog taught me so many valuable lessons in the time we spent together. I’ll share one with you...

LESSON 1: You’re not meant to be contained within a box that someone else creates for you.

See, I didn’t like the idea of keeping him in a crate while I was gone (rookie dog owner move). So I created this awesome space for Grayson. We gated in a whole half of our game room so he had plenty of space. I had tons of toys for him to play with and a big comfy bed for him to lay on.

Every. single. time. When I came home the space was destroyed. Bedding everywhere. Toys ripped apart. One time I came home and there was sh*t on the wall...how does that even happen?!

Once I cooled off...and cleaned the sh*t off of the wall of course...I realized that he wasn’t meant to stay in SMALL SPACES. Even if the space I created was awesome. It was too small for his big energy. He wasn’t meant to sit still. He got bored with the toys that were around him. He’s a pitbull. He’s meant to run and play and be active and be challenged.

And don’t we sometimes find ourselves in situations like this? When we keep ourselves small to fit into the space someone else created for us?

Maybe you have an IDEA that you’re afraid to share. A TALENT that you keep to yourself. A MOVEMENT that you want to start. A DREAM that you suppressed in order to stay comfortable in a bubble that quite frankly, is probably too small for you.

Your bubble might be the group of negative people you surround yourself with. It might be the expectations of your parents. It might be what society says is acceptable. All of these things can be traps - to keep you SMALL. To keep you from truly expressing all that is in you.

Your perception can change everything.
.

Just because you’ve been scared, or cried yourself to sleep, or been so angry you’ve lashed out or so depressed you can barely get out of bed doesn’t mean this year “broke you”.
.
.
.

What if this year actually BUILT you. Strengthened you. Put you in positions to challenge you to see what is inside of you. What if this year took everything away to show you that you actually have everything you need.
.
.
.

Growth is painful. A shedding of thoughts and beliefs that you’re not enough. Storms come to challenge you to be built stronger.

This year built me.

I’m thankful for...
THE UPSETS
THE CHALLENGES
THE SLEEPLESS NIGHTS
THE CREEPING FEAR
THE SADNESS
THE UPHILL BATTLE
THE PRESSURE
THE OPINIONS FROM THE CHEAP SEATS
THE ABRUPT CHANGES
THE OVERWHELM
THE TOUGH DECISIONS
THE ANGER
THE WEAK MOMENTS
THE UNCERTAINTY

Because of these things I’ve discovered a strength that I didn’t know was there.

I’m not the same woman I was walking into 2020. God built me better this year.

And if you’re willing to take a look in the mirror and acknowledge yourself for all you have been through this year...you will realize you were built better too.
